Hauser is a large impoundment on the Missouri River about 15 miles Northeast of Helena, MT. The reservoir provides a productive fishery for rainbow trout, walleye, kokanee salmon, and burbot (ling). Carp, yellow perch, and white suckers are also present.
Fishing for rainbow trout is best at ice-out (early-mid April) for 2-6 pound rainbows, both in the reservoir and in the tailwater immediately below the dam. Worms/marshmallows fished from shore, or slow-trolled crankbaits are the most productive springtime tactics for the reservoir. Tailwater fish prefer eggs, or marabou jigs. Walleye fishing is best in early June.
